This MA certifies the graduate’s Competency in Education and Teaching as well as Competency in Special Education. The graduate of this Program can be included in the Special Education Teachers lists.

Can a philologist apply for a position in special education apart from general education?

Yes

I have graduated from a Technological Educational Institution. Can I apply to study in this Postgraduate Program?

Yes, both Higher Education Institute and Technological Educational Institute graduates are eligible to apply.

In order to recognize this MA, you must contact the corresponding agency in your country.

What’s the timetable like? (2019/20 cycle)

Courses will take place each Friday-Saturday-Sunday.

Every course day will consist of 2 lectures.

NOT every course will be taught every week on the same day and time.

Can you give me any details about the courses?

Each course consists of 12 lectures. The duration of each lecture is 2 hours and 15 minutes (3 attendance checks on each lecture)

Each student is required to choose 2 compulsory and 2 elective courses each semester.

Where will the courses take place?

Each candidate is required to choose between 2 classes available:

Class in Athens: Courses will take place in the facilities of the N.C.S.R. “Demokritos” (End of Patr. Grigoriou E’ & Neapoleos 27 Str, 15341, Agia Paraskevi, Athens”

Class in Komotini: Courses will take place in the facilities of the Department of Greek Philology of the D.U.Th., in the University Campus of Komotini

Students’ attendance is mandatory in each lecture

How can I reach the facilities of the N.C.S.R. “Demokritos”?

a) Using the Suburban Railway  “Doukissis Plakentias” Station

Get to the exit leading to the buses terminal and board on bus number 407.
Get off the bus when you reach the “Demokritos” stop.

b) Using the subway from the city center  “Nomismatokopio” Station

Get to the exit towards Kondilaki str., turn towards Mesogion Av. And move forward following the direction of the commute. Once you pass the traffic light, you will see a bus stop. From this bus stop you can get either on bus number 406 or 407 or B5 and get off at “Demokritos” stop.

c) Using KTEL buses from East Attics / Bus 421 from Nea Ionia / Bus number 304,305,316,A4 from the city center  Agia Paraskevi Square

Get off the bus at the Agia Paraskevi Square and cross it until you reach the bus stop right next to “Everest” store (at the Agiou Ioannou and Evergetou Giavasi Street junction). WARNING! Do not get at the bus stop at the traffic light beside the church, neither at the bus stop on Mesogion Av.
From the bus stop you can get either on bus 406 or B5 and get off at “Demokritos” stop.

d) Once you get off at “Demokritos” bus stop, turn towards the mountain’s direction and walk straight for about 50 meters. Then you will see the entrance to the N.C.S.R. “Demokritos” facilities.

Lectures are taking place at the amphitheater.
Interviews are taking place at the Institute of Informatics.

When does the practical training take place?

The timetable of the practical training will be determined according to the course timetable and the students’ other engagements. Each semester the practical training lasts for 150-200 hours.

Where does the practical training take place?
The location for the practical training will be determined according to the course timetable and the students’ other engagements. The practical training in Semester A lasts for 125 hours, 125 hours in Semester B and 250 hours in Semester C. It is not mandatory for the practical training to be done in Athens.

I have an FCE Certificate in English language. Do I have to take part in the language exam?

No, the FCE Certificate is a B2 Level Certificate of Competence in English.

Can I submit a certificate of competence in another language?

Yes, they are considered as certificates of competence in an additional foreign language and are accordingly counted in the candidate’s final scoring.

In which form can I submit the documents in my portfolio?

A simple photocopy of each document will suffice.

I have finished with my undergraduate studies but my graduation ceremony is pending. Can I apply to study in this Postgraduate Programme?

A certificate of study completion will suffice, as long as the graduation ceremony is in the same year.

I have a transcript list of all courses of my degree dated on the year of my graduation. Is it necessary to submit a new one?

No, provided that the transcript list of all courses of your degree is official and signed by the secretary of the Department you studied into.

I was chosen to study in the Programme. Due to a serious problem, I can’t begin my studies. Can I postpone my studies for a year?

Yes, your position will be given to a runner up and another position will be reserved next year for you.

Does this programme offer any scholarships?

Scholarships will be provided each year to 6 students. Specifically, 3 scholarships will be offered to students with special needs, provided that their annual income does not exceed 8.000€ and that they are not covered by paragraph 2, article 35, law number 4485/2017. Also, 3 scholarships will be awarded to students who got the highest course grades after the first year of study, provided that their annual income does not exceed 10.000€ per annum and that they are not covered by paragraph 2, article 35, law number 4485/2017. The amount of the offered scholarships to each student is 1.950€ (50% of the total tuition fees).

What kind of documents do I have to include in my portfolio If I wish to claim a scholarship/grant?

The candidates who wish to claim scholarship must include their salary slip of the last 2 financial years in their portfolio.

Can I transfer ECTS from other Study Programs?

There is no defined framework for ECTS transferring for the time being.

Is the MA Degree awarded by the N.C.S.R. “Demokritos” or by the Democritus University of Thrace?

The MA Degree is awarded by the Democritus University of Thrace.

I mailed my portfolio before the deadline expired, but it arrived after the deadline expiration. What are the consequences? (2019-20 cycle – Athens)

In this case, the candidate must have sent the registered file and received a posting receipt in order to prove that the file was sent in time, if requested.

Can I submit my portfolio in person at the N.S.C.R. “Demokritos” instead of mailing it? (2019-20 cycle – Athens)

Yes, you can submit your portfolio in person at the Protocol office in the Administration building of N.C.S.R. “Demokritos” on working days, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
